Will of Jeremiah Matteson 
Dated April 8,1807 Received for record March 7, 1810 Shaftsbury, VT 
In the Name of God Amen I Jeremiah Mattison of Shaftsbury in the County 
of Bennington State of Vermont altho labouring at present of some indisposition 
Body yet being of sound disposing mind and memory and understanding 
through the mercy of God do make and ordain this my last will and testa 
ment in the manner and form following that is to say imprimis I will 
that all my debts and funeral charges be paid and discharged by my 
Executrix herein after named. Item I give and demise to my beloved wife 
Ruth all the Use and profits of one third part of the sixty acre lot which 
which my dwelling hous barn and Orchard and other buildings 
standing thereon and one third part the use of one third part of all the 
buildings and all my indore hous hold furniture during her natural life 
and one cow and grain and meat sufficient for her support for one year 
Item I give to my Son Caleb Matteson one dollar Item I give to my son 
Deuty Mattison  one dollar Item I give to my son Solomon one half of 
my part of that lot that I and Solomon Mattison and my son Jeremiah 
Matteson Junr. bought of Jeremiah Andrus lying west of Thomas Warren (?) 
in Shaftsbury I likewise give my son Solomon one half quarter of my 
Saw mill and one third part of my lot called the Mountain lot which I bought 
of Beriah Matteson and Ezekiel Danniels lying in Shaftsbury Item 
I give to my son Reuben Matteson during his natural life and then 
to his heirs the lot that he lives on lying west of Solomon Mattesons Land 
running one rod and one half across  the east end of said lot which I leased 
for an open road from my house to the Saw mill and reserving a drift 
way through said lot from the sawmill westerly to the school house 
to the highway and one third part of a sixty acre lot Called my moun 
tain lot which I bought of Beriah Matteson and Ezekiel Danniels 
and one half of my Grist mill and one quarter of my sawmill all 
the above said property demised to my Son Reuben during his natural 
life and then to decend to his heirs item I give to my son Jesse Matteson one 
dollar and likewise discharge him from one certain Note which I hold 
against him for the Sum of Twentyfour dollars dated June 6th day 
1804 which note I will my Executrix to deliver to my son Jesse Matteson 
at my decease Item I give to my son Jeremiah Matteson the lot 
which I now live on supposed to sixty acres with all the buildings 
with the encumbrances of the widows dower which I have

herebefore willed to her and one quarter and half quarter of 
the Saw mill which hath been heretofore been called his and one 
half of that part of the lot that belongs to me that I and my two 
sons Solomon and Jeremiah bought of Jeremiah Andrews so 
that the whole lot is to be Equally divided between my sons Solomon and 
Jeremiah and one third part of my Lot Called the Mountain lot which 
I bought of Beriah Matteson and Ezekiel Danniels and all my 
farming Tools which I own at my decease Item I give to my grand 
son Jeremiah Matteson one middling sired three year old hors 
when he arrives at the age of twenty one years of age to be paid 
by my Executrix all my stock and clothing and other property 
not particularily mentioned to be equally divided among my heirs 
I do make my two sons and constitute them Solomon and Jeremiah 
Matteson Executrix of this my last will and testament In 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighth day 
of April in the year of Our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and 
Seven Signed Sealed and published and pronounced by the said Jeremiah 
Matteson as his last will and testament who in his presence and in 
the presence of Each other have hereunto subscribed our names
